πŸŽ„ Creative Christmas Cards: Eagles Class Shine in 3D Design βœ‚οΈ

Dec

Eagles Class have been busy combining creativity with design technology skills to make stunning 3D Christmas cards for family and friends!

Children in Years 5 and 6 explored how design strategies can turn a simple idea into something truly special. They learned about planning, structure, and how to make their cards stand out using layers, pop-up elements, and clever folding techniques.

Mrs Williams, their class teacher, shared:
β€œIt’s wonderful to see the children thinking like designers – planning, problem-solving, and adding their own festive flair. They’ve shown real imagination and perseverance!”

To support their learning, the children used design and 3D strategies, including:

  • Sketching and planning: Deciding on themes and layouts before starting.
  • Layering and folding: Creating depth and movement in their cards.
  • Choosing materials carefully: Thinking about colour, texture, and durability.

Questions Parents Can Ask at Home

  • What was the most challenging part of making your 3D card?
  • How did you decide on your design?
  • Which materials worked best and why?
  • If you could make another card, what would you do differently?

Follow-Up Ideas for Home

  • Try making a pop-up card together for another occasion (birthday, thank you, etc.).
  • Explore origami or paper engineering videos online.

This activity links beautifully to our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine – children showed love by creating cards for others, learned new design skills, and shone through their creativity and effort.
