Collective Worship Weekly Update – Theme: Compassion

🐾 Have You Seen Christmas? Discovering Love Through Caring ✨ Finding the True Meaning of Christmas Together 🎄

This week in Collective Worship, our children explored the theme of Compassion through the heart-warming story Have You Seen Christmas? by Vicki Howie. In this imaginative tale, “Christmas” is the name of a little dog who goes missing. As the children in the story search for him, they also discover something much deeper – the real meaning of Christmas.
The message is simple yet powerful: we serve Jesus best by caring for others. Just as the characters show kindness and concern for the lost dog, we reflected on how compassion can guide our actions every day – at home, in school, and in our community.
Our children shared thoughtful ideas about what compassion looks like in real life:
  • Helping someone who feels left out
  • Showing kindness when others are struggling
  • Giving time and care without expecting anything in return

Short Prayer for Compassion
Dear Lord,
Thank You for showing us what true love looks like through Jesus. Help us to notice when others need care and give us hearts full of compassion. May we share kindness in our words and actions every day. Amen.

Family Activity Suggestion
“Compassion Countdown”
Create a simple family challenge for the week:
  • Write down seven acts of kindness on slips of paper (one for each day).
  • Examples: Help tidy up without being asked, make a card for someone who needs cheering up, donate a toy or book to charity.
  • Each day, pick one slip and complete the act together as a family.
This is a lovely way to keep the spirit of Christmas alive and show love in practical ways.
