Everyone’s Welcome: Learning About Differences at St Peter’s

At St Peter’s CE Primary School, we believe every child is special and deserves to feel valued and included. That’s why we proudly use the nationally recognised No Outsiders Programme as part of our commitment to our vision: Love, Learn, Shine.

What is the No Outsiders Programme?

The No Outsiders Programme is designed to teach children about equality, diversity, and inclusion in a positive and age-appropriate way. Its core message is simple yet powerful: everyone is welcome. Through this programme, children learn that differences whether in race, religion, gender, disability, or family structure—are something to celebrate.

Why do we use it?

  • To help children understand and respect differences.
  • To promote kindness, empathy, and acceptance.
  • To prepare children for life in modern Britain, where diversity is a strength.

How does it work?

Lessons are taught through engaging storybooks and thoughtful discussions. These stories explore themes like friendship, respect, and celebrating uniqueness. Activities encourage children to think about how we can all live together peacefully and support one another.

What are the benefits for your child?

  • Builds confidence and self-esteem.
  • Reduces bullying and prejudice.
  • Helps children develop positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging.

What Our Community Says

Staff Voice:
“The No Outsiders Programme has transformed the way our children talk about differences. They are confident, respectful, and proud to celebrate what makes each of us unique. It’s wonderful to see them living out our vision of Love, Learn, Shine every day.”
“I like the stories because they show that everyone can be friends, even if they’re not the same. It makes me feel happy that nobody is left out.”
— Year 3 child
“We’ve learnt that being different is good. If everyone was the same, life would be boring! I think it’s important to be kind and stand up for people.”
— Year 6 child

How Can Parents Support at Home?

  • Talk about differences positively: Encourage conversations about what makes people unique and why that’s something to celebrate.
  • Share stories together: Read books that show diverse families, cultures, and abilities. Ask your child what they think about the characters.
  • Model kindness and respect: Children learn from what they see. Show acceptance in your words and actions.
  • Ask open questions: “What did you learn in your No Outsiders lesson this week?” or “How can we make sure everyone feels welcome?”
  • Celebrate diversity in everyday life: Try foods from different cultures, learn greetings in other languages, or watch a film that shows different traditions.
At St Peter’s, we want every child to feel loved, to learn with joy, and to shine brightly in all they do. The No Outsiders Programme helps us make that vision a reality and with your support at home, its impact is even greater.
