🌍 Sparrows Class, Exploring Habitats: Where Do Animals Call Home?🌱

Nov

Love, Learn, Shine in Science!

Today children in Sparrows (Year 2) embarked on an exciting investigation into why different animals live in different habitats. The adventure began with a mystery: four letters arrived, but we didn’t know who they were for! By reading the letters, exploring habitat descriptions, and checking the addresses, the children became detectives—piecing together clues to match each letter to the correct animal.
Next, the learning journey continued as we explored four different climates. Working in teams, the children named animals that live in each environment and explained why they are perfectly suited to those conditions. From icy tundras to lush rainforests, we discovered that every habitat must meet an animal’s basic needs—food, water, shelter, and space. We also learned about the amazing adaptations that help animals survive in their unique homes.
To keep the learning alive at home, we invite families to explore BBC Bitesize for fun games, activities, and quizzes that reinforce today’s discoveries:

Here are three fun questions to spark conversation and deepen understanding:
  1. “Can you tell me about one animal you learned about today and explain how its adaptations help it survive in its habitat?”
  2. “If you could design a new animal for the desert, what special features would it need to survive?”
  3. “Why do you think animals can’t live in every habitat? What would happen if a penguin tried to live in the rainforest?”
