👻 Shine Bright This Halloween: Keeping Children Safe 👻

Halloween is a magical time for many of our children—full of costumes, creativity, and community spirit. Whether your child is dressing up for a party, heading out trick-or-treating, or enjoying spooky crafts at home, we want every child at St Peter’s to Love, Learn, Shine safely.
Here are some practical tips for parents and carers to help children aged 4–11 enjoy Halloween with confidence and care.

🧥 Costume Safety

  • Choose flame-resistant costumes and avoid long trailing fabrics that could cause trips or falls.
  • Add reflective tape or glow sticks to help children stay visible after dark.
  • Face paint over masks: Face paint is often safer and more comfortable than masks, which can restrict vision.

🚶 Trick-or-Treating Tips

  • Young children should always be accompanied by a trusted adult.
  • Stick to well-lit streets and familiar neighbourhoods.
  • Only visit homes with lights on, and remind children to be polite and respectful.
For older children (around 10–11) who may be going out with friends:
  • Agree a route and return time in advance.
  • Have a trusted adult or adults placed on the route.
  • Encourage them to stay in groups and avoid shortcuts through parks or alleys.

🧠 Safety First

  • Talk about stranger safety in a calm and age-appropriate way – use the clever never goes resources.
  • Remind children to trust their instincts—if something doesn’t feel right, they should speak up.
  • Encourage kindness and inclusion—not all children celebrate Halloween, and that’s okay!

At St Peter’s, we believe that when children feel safe and supported, they shine brightly. Halloween is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate imagination, friendship, and fun. With a few simple precautions, we can make sure it’s a joyful experience for all.
