Mastering Number at Key Stage 2

Mar

We are pleased to be one of a handful of schools in North Yorkshire who are part of the Key Stage Two Mastering Number pilot. This project enables pupils in Years 4 and 5 to develop fluency in multiplication and division facts, and a confidence and flexibility with number that exemplifies good number sense.

This week we were delighted to welcome teachers from across North Yorkshire as well as Viv Townsend the Assistant Director for Evaluation and Impact from NCTEM to St Peter’s. The group came to observe Mrs Crankshaw who is an NCTEM Specialist Teacher and Accredited Professional Development Lead Teacher deliver one of the mastering number sessions. As well as observing the Teacher Research Group (TRG) were able to share their experiences of the project to date helping to shape and further improve use of these fantastic materials. The children as always were superb in sustaining their concentration and thinking despite a large number of extra adults in their classroom.
