🦉Sparrows Class Take Flight in Their Learning with Owl Visitors🦉

Sparrows Class at St Peter’s Primary School have truly embraced our vision of Love, Learn, Shine today as they explored the fascinating world of owls!

In English, they have been reading The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark, a story that inspires courage and curiosity two qualities that help us shine every day. To make their learning even more exciting, they welcomed experts from the Harrogate Birds of Prey Centre, who shared incredible facts about these amazing birds.

Did you know that owls’ eye colour tells us when they hunt? Owls with yellow eyes are diurnal, meaning they hunt during the day, while those with orange eyes are nocturnal hunters of the night. They also learned that owls’ feather colours help them camouflage in their habitats, and that there are five species of owls native to the UK: the Tawny Owl, Long-Eared Owl, Barn Owl, Short-Eared Owl, and Little Owl.

The highlight of the visit? Meeting two beautiful owls Luna and Puck. Some of us even had the chance to handle them, an unforgettable experience that sparked wonder and respect for wildlife.

One Year Two pupil said:

“Holding Luna was amazing! I never knew owls could be so soft and calm. I can’t wait to write my fact file!”

This knowledge will help Sparrows Class write detailed fact files about owls in our English lessons. Through this project, we are showing how we Love the natural world, Learn through hands-on experiences, and Shine by sharing our knowledge creatively.
