🥞 Happy Shrove Tuesday from Everyone at St Peter’s!

Today we wish all our families a very Happy Shrove Tuesday  a joyful day filled with flipping pancakes, sharing traditions, and learning about an important moment in the Christian calendar. At St Peter’s, days like this help our children Love, Learn, Shine, bringing faith, fun, and curiosity together in meaningful ways.

🌟 What Is Shrove Tuesday?

Shrove Tuesday — often called Pancake Day — is the day before Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian tradition.
The word shrove comes from “to shrive”, meaning to confess and prepare. For many Christians, this day is a moment to pause, reflect, and get ready for Lent.
Families traditionally made pancakes on this day to use up rich ingredients like eggs, sugar, and butter before the simpler, reflective period of Lent began.

⏳ Why Is It Important to Christians Around the World?

Shrove Tuesday is celebrated across the globe because it:
  • ✝️ Marks the start of Lent, a 40‑day season of reflection leading up to Easter.
  • đź’› Encourages people to think about kindness, gratitude, and making positive choices.
  • 🕊️ Helps children learn about Christian faith through stories, traditions, and shared experiences.
For our children at St Peter’s, learning about these traditions helps them grow in understanding, empathy, and spiritual awareness, supporting our vision that every child can Love, Learn, Shine in their own unique way.
