πŸ•οΈ Bewerley Begins.Β  Love, Learn, Shine at Bewerley Park – Day One🌲

πŸŒ… A Bright and Exciting Start

There was a real buzz in the air on Tuesday morning as our Year 6 children gathered in the school hall, rucksacks packed and smiles wide. It was wonderful to see so many parents waving us off – thank you for your support in helping the children be so well prepared for this special adventure.

🚌 Journey to Nidderdale

We set off on our journey to Bewerley Park, nestled in the stunning surroundings of Pateley Bridge in the heart of Nidderdale – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coach was filled with chatter and excitement as we made our way through the autumn countryside.

🏑 Settling In and Setting Goals

On arrival, the children got straight into the swing of things. They collected waterproofs, made their beds, and met their group leaders. There was a real sense of independence as they took responsibility for their own space and belongings. The groups spent time getting to know each other and discussing their aims and hopes for the week from trying new activities and pushing themselves out of their comfort zones, to working as a team and growing in confidence.

🧭 Afternoon Adventures: Digital Orienteering

Our first activity took us to Fishpond Woods for an exciting session of digital orienteering. Children learned how to read and orient maps, solve problems, and navigate their way through the courses that increased in difficulty. There were a few wrong turns along the way, but these became brilliant learning opportunities showing the value of perseverance and teamwork. We also had some great discussions about the importance of traditional map-reading skills and not relying solely on digital devices. After all, a real map never runs out of battery!

🍽️ A Warm Welcome Back

After a busy afternoon outdoors, we returned to the centre for a delicious hot evening mealΒ  just what we needed to refuel and recharge. The children enjoyed chatting about their day and sharing stories from their first activity.

🌌 Evening Exploration: The Night Walk

As the sun set, we set off on a magical night walk. The route took us down to Glasshouses, around the dam, and back into Pateley Bridge through the showground. The children embraced the adventure, showing great resilience and curiosity as they explored the landscape by torchlight.

β˜• Cosy End to a Wonderful Day

Back at the centre, we ended the day with hot chocolate and biscuits a perfect way to wind down. The children settled into their dorms, ready for a good night’s sleep after a full and fantastic first day.

This residential is already proving to be a truly special experience. It’s a chance for our children to grow in independence, deepen friendships, and learn in the great outdoors all while embracing the beauty and challenges of autumn weather. We’re so proud of how they’ve started their adventure and can’t wait to see what Day Two brings! Thank you again to all our families for your continued support.
