Owls Year 3: Celebrating Gratitude Together

This afternoon, Owls Class took part in a heart‑warming myHappymind session exploring the ‘Gratitude Domino Effect’. The children sat together and shared reasons why they are grateful for one another. As each child spoke, you could truly feel the appreciation and kindness spreading around the room—just like falling dominos.
Children shared comments such as:
  • “Thank you for being a good friend.”
  • “Thank you for always being there for me.”
  • “Thank you for giving me advice about … today.”
  • “Thank you for helping me with my maths when I was stuck.”
It created a really lovely end to the day and a wonderful reminder of how small moments of kindness help our children Love, Learn and Shine.

A few words from Mrs Henderson

“It was beautiful to see how confidently the children shared their gratitude. The atmosphere in the room completely changed—it was calmer, happier and full of smiles. These moments really help children build one another up.”

What is myHappymind?

myHappymind is a nationally recognised, NHS‑backed curriculum that teaches children how their brains work and helps them build positive mental health habits such as gratitude, resilience and self‑esteem. It supports children in developing lifelong emotional wellbeing skills through simple, child‑friendly strategies and activities.
This is described in our school’s parent newsletter resources, which explain that myHappymind teaches preventative habits that support positive mental health and resilience.

Ideas to Continue the Gratitude Domino Effect at Home

Here are some simple ways families can build on today’s learning:
  • Gratitude Jar – Each evening, write down one thing your child is grateful for and pop it in a jar. Read them together at the end of the week.
  • Kindness Compliments – Take turns going around the table saying one kind thing about each person.
  • Thank‑You Notes – Encourage your child to write a quick note or draw a picture to thank someone who helped them that day.
  • Gratitude Walk – On the way home or around the garden, name things you appreciate in the world around you.
These small habits help children recognise the good in themselves, their friendships and their wider community—another important step in helping every child at St Peter’s Love, Learn, Shine.
