National SEND Consultation – Why Your Voice Matters
The Government is currently consulting on a set of proposed changes to improve outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across the 0–25 system. These proposals aim to ensure that support is early, local and fair, grounded in strong evidence, and shared across local partners so that every child receives the help they need to thrive.
At St Peter’s, our vision of Love, Learn, Shine guides everything we do. We know how important it is for families to feel heard and for children to receive the right help at the right time. This consultation is an important opportunity for parents, carers and professionals to influence national decisions that directly affect children’s lives.
🌈 What the Consultation Is About

The Department for Education has set out proposals to:
- strengthen early identification of needs
- make support more consistent across the country
- ensure decisions for children are based on high‑quality evidence
- build a system where schools, health services and local authorities share responsibility and work more closely together
These changes are designed to improve the everyday experience of children with SEND and remove barriers that can prevent them from flourishing.
💭 Why Your Views Matter
The Government is asking for feedback from anyone with an interest in SEND. This includes:
- children, young people and families
- teachers and school leaders
- early years settings, schools, trusts and post‑16 providers
- local authorities and health partners
- specialist experts, researchers and representative groups
Every perspective helps build a clearer picture of what works well—and where improvements are needed.
Sharing your views ensures that future reforms reflect the real experiences of families and support settings like ours in continuing to help every child Love, Learn and Shine.
