πŸ“š Exploring Differences: Eagles Take Flight at the Library

Eagles Year 5 & 6 Visit the Library – A Lesson in Empathy and Inclusion

This morning, our Eagles children from Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic visit to the library right next door to school. The children were thrilled to browse the shelves and choose exciting new books to take home – what a wonderful way to nurture a love of reading!
The library team went above and beyond by organising a thought-provoking activity focused on empathy and understanding differences. Children explored what it might feel like to live with visual impairments by trying on special glasses that simulated conditions such as Tunnel Vision. They then attempted to read books through these lenses – an eye-opening experience that sparked meaningful conversations about inclusion and respect.
Mrs Henderson, Eagles’ class teacher, shared her thoughts:
β€œIt was incredible to see the children engage so deeply with the idea of difference. Activities like this help them develop empathy and remind us all how important it is to celebrate diversity.”
One child summed up the experience perfectly:
β€œIt made me realise how hard it can be for people who can’t see well. I think we should always try to help and be kind.”
We are so fortunate to have such an amazing resource right on our doorstep. This partnership with the library enriches our curriculum and supports our school vision of Love, Learn, Shine – helping children grow into compassionate, curious learners who value every individual.
