🌟 From Sketch to Screen: Children Meet a Real-Life Animator!

Year 5 children from Eagles and Ravens were treated to an unforgettable experience this week as they took part in a Creative Animation Workshop led by renowned director and animator Andy Martin. Known for his work on the film adaptation of Tiddler by Julia Donaldson, Andy brought a touch of movie magic to St Peter’s, inspiring our young learners with stories from the world of animation and film.
During a lively Q&A session, the children asked thoughtful and engaging questions, eager to learn more about careers in the creative industries. Andy’s insights into storytelling, character design, and the animation process sparked imaginations and left everyone buzzing with ideas.
As part of their current writing project, the children joined Andy in a character draw-along, where they learned how to design their own β€˜pet’ characters. These imaginative creations will become the stars of their own versions of My Pet Star, a heartwarming tale that the children will complete next week while Year 6 are away on their residential trip.
To round off the project, Year 5 will host a special reading session for Wrens class, sharing their finished books with the younger children. It’s a wonderful opportunity for our older pupils to shine as storytellers and role models, living out our school vision to Love, Learn, Shine.
We’re also thrilled to hear that Andy is currently directing the Christmas 2026 Julia Donaldson filmβ€”we can’t wait to discover which beloved book he’s bringing to life next
