🎤 Soundtrack Your Story: Eagles Rap Their Way Through National Storytelling Week

📚 Eagles Celebrate Stories with The National Literacy Trust Live Lesson

This morning, Eagles Class (Year 5 & 6) took part in The National Literacy Trust’s live lesson to celebrate National Storytelling Week. The session was hosted by rapper Alim Kamara, who brought stories to life through rhythm, rhyme and performance.
This year’s theme is “Soundtrack your Story”, and our children loved discovering how a simple poem can be transformed into a powerful rap. Alim showed them how to use beat, voice and expression to add emotion and energy to their words – there was a real buzz in the classroom!
Our Eagles children were fantastic contributors to the live lesson, sharing ideas in real time and responding thoughtfully to the activities. Afterwards, they had a go at writing and performing some of their own rap-style poems, which you can see in the attached work and photos. Their creativity, courage and teamwork made us incredibly proud.

“It was wonderful to see the children so engaged with storytelling in a fresh, modern way,” said Mrs Henderson, Eagles Class Teacher. “They showed such confidence in sharing their ideas and turning their words into performance. It was a brilliant opportunity for them to see that stories, poetry and music all connect – and that their own voices really matter.”

Experiences like this are a powerful way for our children to Love, Learn, Shine:
  • Love – by enjoying stories and celebrating each other’s ideas.
  • Learn – by exploring new ways to write, perform and express themselves.
  • Shine – by having the confidence to share their work and talents with others.
If you’d like to keep the storytelling magic going at home, The National Literacy Trust has put together some lovely ideas, resources and inspiration for families. You can explore them here:
