🌙 From Moon Landings to Library Ladders: Kingfishers Explore Our Local Library

The Year 1 Kingfishers enjoyed a wonderful visit to our local library today, discovering new books, learning how libraries work, and playing an important part in celebrating its 120th anniversary.
As soon as they stepped inside, the children were delighted to spot the beautiful bunting they had helped create last term—now proudly on display for the whole community to see. It was a lovely moment of recognition and a reminder that their creativity continues to brighten our town.

Exploring Books From the Past… and Beyond!

The visit linked beautifully to their history learning, especially as the children have been curious about famous world events such as the moon landing. They eagerly hunted for books about space, explorers, and big moments in time—discovering that a library is overflowing with stories that stretch far beyond the classroom.

Learning to Search Like Librarians

The children also learned how to find books both digitally and on the shelves using the library’s simple classification system. They loved practising searching for titles, spotting signs, and understanding how stories are organised. These early library skills support our vision for children who Love, Learn and Shine—developing confidence, curiosity, and independence.
Miss Ratcliffe shared her joy at the children’s engagement during the visit:
“It was wonderful to see the children so excited about reading and discovering new authors. They showed such confidence exploring the library and took real pride in spotting the bunting they had made. We hope this inspires families to make the most of our fantastic local library.”

Celebrating a Community Treasure

Our local library is an incredible resource—free, welcoming, and full of opportunities for families to enjoy together. We’d love to encourage all our families to pop in, borrow a book, and join in the celebrations of its 120 years serving the community.
The Kingfishers have certainly shown how stories help us grow, imagine, and shine brightly. What a joyful visit!
