🔥Sparkle Safely: Bonfire Night Tips for Families 🔥
As Bonfire Night approaches, it’s a wonderful opportunity to gather with loved ones, enjoy the sparkle of fireworks, and celebrate together. But it’s also a time to be extra mindful of safety—especially with young children. At St Peter’s, we believe in helping our children Love, Learn, Shine—and that includes learning how to enjoy seasonal traditions safely and responsibly.
🎆 Top Tips for a Safe Bonfire Night
Here are some trusted safety tips for families with primary-aged children:
1. Attend Organised Displays
Local fire services strongly recommend attending professionally organised events. These are far safer than home displays and often include additional entertainment and food stalls for a fun family evening.
2. Keep a Safe Distance
If you’re near fireworks or a bonfire, make sure children stay well back. Teach them about the dangers of fire and loud noises, and keep pets indoors.
3. Glow, Don’t Burn
Swap sparklers for glow sticks! Sparklers burn at temperatures of up to 2,000°C and can cause serious injuries. If you do use sparklers, always supervise closely and ensure children wear gloves.
4. Dress for Safety
Avoid loose or flammable clothing. Opt for snug-fitting coats and gloves, and make sure children are visible in the dark—reflective gear is a great idea!
5. Talk About Fire Safety
Use Bonfire Night as a learning opportunity. Discuss why fire can be dangerous and how we can enjoy it safely. This supports our school vision of helping children learn through real-life experiences.
