🌿Eagles Class Geography Fieldwork: Rewilding Our School Grounds 🌿
This week, Eagles Class stepped outside for an exciting piece of Geography fieldwork as part of their learning in biodiversity and sustainability. The enquiry question guiding their investigations was:
“How can rewilding our school grounds help the environment and improve our school community?”
With clipboards, maps and a brilliant sense of curiosity, the children explored different parts of the school grounds to assess current biodiversity. They looked closely at which areas are thriving, and which parts might benefit from simple rewilding ideas to support wildlife.
Using aerial maps of the school site, the children added thoughtful annotations showing areas that could be transformed with actions such as planting wildflowers, creating insect-friendly spaces, or allowing small sections to grow naturally. Their careful observations showed maturity, teamwork and a strong sense of environmental responsibility.
The session ended in our outdoor shelter — transformed into an outdoor classroom — where the children shared their ideas and reflected on how rewilding could help both the environment and our school community. Their enthusiasm filled the space as they discussed how even small changes can make a big difference.
This learning powerfully reflects our school vision:
Love • Learn • Shine
– Love for God’s creation,
– Learning through real, hands‑on enquiry,
– and Shining with responsibility, teamwork and creativity.
🌱 Follow‑Up Activity at Home
Children are invited to continue their nature‑spotting at home or in their local area. They might look for places where wildlife could be encouraged through simple ideas such as:
- leaving a small patch for wildflowers
- creating a mini bug hotel
- making a log or stone pile
- or simply noticing different plants, insects and birds
They can bring in a sketch, photo or short note about what they discovered. We can’t wait to see their ideas!
