💚🚲 Small Steps, Big Impact: Celebrating Our Walk to School Community

Thank you to all the children and families who joined our fourth Walk to School Day of the year. Despite the very cold start, the sunny skies made it a truly lovely morning. We are deeply grateful for everyone’s effort, commitment and enthusiasm.
Walking, cycling or scooting even part of the way brings fantastic physical, emotional, health and environmental benefits for our whole community. Children who walk to school enjoy better physical and mental wellbeing, as widely recognised by national Walk to School initiatives, which highlight improved fitness, increased concentration, and reduced stress for children who begin their day with movement.
It was wonderful to walk with the Walking Bus from the Stray, and a reminder that there is easy, free parking all around the edge of West Park Stray for anyone who’d like a short stroll to begin the day when time allows.

Why Walking Matters—For Us and For Harrogate

Choosing to walk, scoot or cycle helps to:
  • Reduce traffic and congestion around school, creating a calmer and safer environment for families.
  • Cut harmful emissions, supporting our local community’s efforts to reduce carbon footprint—something highlighted across Harrogate district, where transport remains a major contributor to local emissions.
  • Protect the planet our children will inherit, aligning with the spirit of Zero Carbon Harrogate’s mission to encourage more sustainable travel choices within the town.
  • Promote healthy routines that benefit children’s physical and emotional wellbeing.
Every little step truly does make a difference, and together we are modelling the values at the heart of our school vision: Love, Learn, Shine—loving our community, learning healthy habits, and shining by caring for our environment.

If You Missed Today…

Don’t worry—two more Walking Buses are planned later in the year.
