🌍 Year 4 Children Take Action: Letters to Our Local MP About Plastic Pollution 🌍

βœ‰οΈ Starlings Speak Up! Empowering Our Children to Make a Difference 🌍

As part of their learning about environmental issues and the role of Members of Parliament, the children wrote formal and persuasive letters to our local MP, Tom Gordon, raising their concerns about plastic pollution and its impact on our planet.
This project is a wonderful example of how our curriculum links together to prepare children for their future. Through English, Geography, and PSHE, they explored the importance of advocacy and learned how MPs represent everyone in their constituency. The children then put their learning into action by asking Mr Gordon to continue championing this vital issue in Parliament.
All letters have now been sent to his constituency office, and we look forward to hearing his response. This work shows the positive impact of climate education at St Peter’s and how we empower children to be active citizens seeking change.

Mrs Pywell, Starlings Class Teacher, said:
“I am so proud of how passionate and thoughtful the children have been. They have shown that their voices matter and that they can make a real difference for the future of our planet.”

We are pleased to share some examples of their fantastic letters at the bottom of this post – do take a look and celebrate their brilliant efforts!
At St Peter’s, we believe in our vision to Love, Learn, Shine, and this project truly reflects that – children learning deeply, caring for others and the world, and shining as advocates for change.
