🌈 Being a Good Neighbour: Compassion in Action🌈

🌟 Weekly Worship. What Makes a Good Neighbour?

This week at St Peter’s, our worship has been centred around the value of compassion, with a special focus on what it means to be a good neighbour. Inspired by the story of the Good Samaritan from Luke 10:25–37, the children explored how kindness and care can cross boundaries and bring people together.
We began by asking a simple but powerful question: “Who is my neighbour?” Through storytelling, reflection, and discussion, the children discovered that a neighbour isn’t just someone who lives nearby it’s anyone in need of help, friendship, or understanding.
The retelling of the Good Samaritan story helped the children see how compassion means noticing when someone is hurting and choosing to help, even when it’s not easy or convenient. The Samaritan man didn’t walk away he stopped, cared, and made a difference. That’s the kind of neighbour Jesus calls us to be.
Children were invited to think about times when they’ve shown compassion or when someone has shown it to them. They shared ideas about how they could be good neighbours in school, at home, and in the wider community.
This worship links beautifully to our school vision: Love, Learn, Shine. By loving others through acts of kindness, learning from Jesus’ example, and shining with compassion, our children are growing into thoughtful, caring members of the community.

🙏 A Prayer for Compassion🙏

Jesus, help my eyes to see,
All the good you send for me.
Jesus, help my ears to hear,
Calls for help from far and near.
Jesus, help my feet to go,
In the way that you will show.
Jesus, help my hands to do,
All things loving, kind and true.
Amen.
