📖 World Book Day 2026 – A Celebration of Stories, Kindness and Creativity📖

World Book Day 2026 at St Peter’s CE Primary School was a joyful celebration of everything we love about reading. Our children embraced a day full of imagination, creativity, and shared experiences as we celebrated the magic of books together.
From dazzling costumes to exciting activities, the whole school was buzzing with excitement  a perfect example of our school vision to Love, Learn, and Shine.

🎭 Masked Reader Challenge

Children loved listening to extracts from staff reading their favourite books… but in disguise! With clues to follow and voices to guess, there was so much excitement as children tried to work out which member of staff was behind the mask. They enjoyed hearing such a range of extracts from different books and discovering new favourites along the way.

📚 Ten Word Tiny Tales – Big Ideas in Small Packages

Inspired by the delightful book Ten Word Tiny Tales, every child created their own mini 10‑word story. These tiny tales were big on imagination and beautifully showcased the children’s creativity.
👉 Many children linked their stories to our school value of kindness, showing how even the smallest story can carry a powerful message.

🌱 Book Swap Success – Thank You Climate Crew!

Our Climate Crew ran a fantastic book swap, giving children the chance to pass on well‑loved stories and pick up a new book to enjoy. It was wonderful to see children choosing books thoughtfully, knowing they were giving them a new life with another eager reader.
This simple act of sharing books truly reflected our values of kindness, community spirit, and sustainability.

🎭 Costumes That Lit Up the School

As always, the costumes were simply amazing! From explorers and superheroes to classic characters and imaginative creations, the children (and staff!) brought books to life in colourful and creative ways. The excitement and pride around school were lovely to see.

📘 A Special Visit from Imagined Things Bookshop

We were delighted to welcome Georgia, from the independent bookshop Imagined Things in Harrogate. She shared some of her favourite books, talked about the joys and challenges of being an independent bookseller, and brought the magic of real bookshops into our school.
Georgia also ensured that every child received a World Book Day book — a generous gesture that made the day extra special.
A huge thank you to Georgia and Imagined Things for supporting our community of young readers.

🗨️ A Message from Our Headteacher, Mr Griffiths

“Books have the unique power to open hearts, stretch imaginations and spark curiosity. In a world filled with screens, there is still something incredibly precious about holding a real book in your hands. It was wonderful to see every child at St Peter’s celebrating stories together and discovering the joy of reading. Days like this remind us why reading sits at the heart of helping our children Love, Learn and Shine.”

💛 A Day to Remember

Thank you to children, families, staff, volunteers, and our visiting bookseller for making World Book Day 2026 such a memorable event. The joy of reading truly shone across St Peter’s, and we can’t wait to see how today’s stories continue to inspire our children in the weeks and months ahead.
