🌈 Little People, Big Dreams Inspire Year 2 Sparrows

This week, the Year 2 Sparrows have been concluding their PSHE unit on Jobs People Do by exploring the inspiring theme of future aspirations. It has been a wonderful and energising way to finish the topic, with the classroom buzzing with ideas, imagination and ambition.
Throughout the unit, the children have loved diving into a range of Little People, Big Dreams books. These beautifully illustrated stories of real‑life role models have helped the children see how determination, creativity, and hard work can lead to extraordinary achievements. The messages in the books have encouraged the children to dream big and believe that they, too, can shine brightly in their chosen paths.
As part of their final lesson, each child thought carefully about what they might like to be when they grow up. Their ideas ranged from brilliant builders and amazing artists to terrific teachers, incredible ice‑cream makers and helpful hairdressers. With huge enthusiasm, every child then created their very own Little People, Big Dreams‑style front cover showcasing their future ambition.
These vibrant, aspiration‑themed book covers are now proudly displayed in the Sparrows classroom. Not only do they brighten the space, but they also act as a daily reminder of how hard our children work, the dreams they hold, and all the ways they are learning to Love, Learn, Shine as they grow.

💬 A word from Miss Corrigan, Sparrows Class Teacher

“It has been absolutely inspiring to see how confidently the children talk about their futures. They’ve shown such imagination, positivity and ambition. Their book covers are a true celebration of who they are and who they hope to become. I’m incredibly proud of every single child.”

🏡 Follow‑Up Ideas for Home

If families would like to continue these lovely conversations at home, here are some gentle suggestions:

✨ Questions to Ask

  • “What job do you think might suit your talents and interests?”
  • “Which Little People, Big Dreams character inspired you the most? Why?”
  • “What skills do you think you already have that could help you with your dream job?”
  • “Can you think of someone you know who does a job you’d like to try?”
  • “What do you enjoy doing now that you might still love when you’re older?”

🎨 Activities to Try Together

  • Create a Family Dreams Book – Each person draws or writes about a job they wanted when they were younger (grown‑ups included!) and shares how dreams can change as we grow.
  • Role‑Play Careers Day – Let your child pretend to “be” their chosen profession using toys, dressing‑up, or simple props.
  • Visit a Workplace – If appropriate, arrange a short visit to a family member’s workplace to see a real job in action.
  • Library Trip – Borrow more Little People, Big Dreams books to explore new role models.
  • Skills Hunt – Spot everyday skills (teamwork, creativity, problem‑solving) and link them to real jobs.
