✝️ A Fresh Start: Sparrows Learn About Hope and Forgiveness

Mar
This half term in RE, our Sparrows have been learning all about the Easter story. Today, the children focused on Good Friday, exploring why Christians describe such a sad moment as “good.” Through discussion and storytelling, the children learned that many Christians believe Good Friday is “good” because Jesus’ death is understood to bring hope, love, and a fresh start.
To help the children understand this in an age‑appropriate and meaningful way, they explored the idea using the analogy of receiving a clean white T‑shirt. We talked about how Christian teaching often suggests that God offers people a “clean” start. When people make unkind or hurtful choices, it’s like getting that bright white T‑shirt dirty. Many Christians believe that Jesus’ actions on Good Friday help to “make the shirt clean again.”
The children then completed a thoughtful activity where they decorated an outline of a T‑shirt to show their learning. They added marks to represent “wrong choices” and filled the rest with symbols of kindness, love, forgiveness, and positive actions—wonderful reflections of how we Love, Learn, Shine each day at St Peter’s.

Miss Corrigan shared:
“The children approached today’s learning with such maturity and empathy. Their discussions showed real depth of understanding, and I was incredibly proud of how they connected the Easter story to ideas of kindness and making good choices.”
