Hello and a very warm welcome to Sparrows class! My name is Miss Potter and I am the Year 2 teacher in Sparrows. I love music and singing. In Sparrows we love coming into school and learning about lots of new and exciting things. We are very creative and enjoy sharing our ideas and adventures. Homework

Year 1 homework- Reading books will go home on a Wednesday to be returned to school on Monday. Spellings will go home on a Friday and the children will be tested on them the following Friday. They are associated with the upcoming week’s phonics learning so we will be giving all ks1 children a spelling book and some spellings this Friday to be tested on next Friday. The children will be tested on five of the words they have learnt at home.

Year 2 homework- Same as Year 1 for spelling and reading but after October half term they will get a schofield and sims reading comprehension book and a maths book. The children will be asked to do one page of each per week of the schofield and sims book. With the maths book, there is an teaching page and a question page per week. The page will be associated with what the children are learning in class or used as a pre teach for more challenging topics such as time. The children will be given their homework on Friday to be returned to school by Wednesday at the latest.

Sharing story – being read to
Weekly Little Wandle spellings (given out on Friday and tested on the following Friday).
There will be a reading comprehension book sent out in the Spring Term.
Weekly Maths task from book (further information below).

Year 2 Maths workbook to bring home and work through as a homework task.

For every topic, there’s a page of clear, colourful notes that summarises all the important skills — this is followed by a page of practice questions to quiz children on what they’ve just learned.

All homework tasks set will be relevant to what the children have either already learnt or are learning in Maths within school. We will be sending these books home with children on a Thursday afternoon, and we will ask for them to be returned to school on a Tuesday, to allow time for them to be marked.

Tasks will be set weekly, and the page in which the children are expected to complete will be highlighted.

We would like to still encourage your child to practise their known facts and automatic recall facts such as:

Number bonds within 10 and 20
Counting in twos, fives, and tens
Correct number formation
