Welcome to the Herons class page!
Herons are a hard-working group of children, who work well independently and effectively in a team. We are also resilient and put 100% effort in anything our minds are set on. We are all supportive of one another and love to celebrate sharing our shine!

In Year 5 and 6 the children are encouraged to read increasingly challenging texts which are sometimes difficult to choose! To help, we have come up with a list of appropriate texts that we recommend, a lot of which can be found in our school library.
Homework expectations for Herons:
Weekly spellings. Children will be given a copy to take home and a copy to keep in school. Children will be expected to learn their spellings on Edshed and/or evidence their learning in their spelling books – this will be checked. Mrs Pywell will go through the new spellings with them on a Monday. Mrs Robbins will test them on a Friday and hand out the new ones to learn for the following Friday.
Schofield & Sims Maths homework. 1 page to be completed every week by Friday, when it will be marked.
Daily reading. Children will be sent home with an appropriate reading book. They should be reading for 10minutes each day, and should record the pages they have read in their reading record. Children will receive a merit if they have read 5 days that week, and 2 merits if they’ve read daily. Their reading records will be checked daily. Children may read and record their reading themselves, although we would also encourage some regular reading time with your child – once or twice a week would be wonderful to help them develop their oral literacy skills.
Regular TTROCKSTARS. This is a fun way for children to ensure their maths fluency levels remain high in Year 5, but is particularly important for our Year 4 children, who will be undertaking the Y4 multiplication check later this year.
