Merry Christmas!

Our Year 5 and 6 children have been getting into the Christmas spirit this week and want to wish all our friends and families a lovely, restful Christmas break.

Writing Week – November 2019

This week we have been thinking about the impact that the UCI cycling world championships had on Harrogate and our school. We held debates about whether it had a positive effect on the town or whether we’d rather it have been hosted by another town. We had very mixed opinions at the start of the week but were swayed by hearing from some local businesses such as ‘Specialized’ the cycle shop who said that the footfall and takings had massively increased during the UCI week!

We also held a Spelling Bee during the week using The Spelling Shed hive games to first of all compete against our own classes and then against the other children in our year groups. Well done to Olivia and Martha for being the champion spellers in KS2. What an exciting competition – the rest of us cheered on our classmates fantastically!

Bewerley Park – October 2019

The children had an amazing week at Bewerley Park taking part in incredible activities such as climbing at Brimham Rocks, gorge walking and the leap of faith! The weather was on our side… we managed to stay mostly dry but we battled through some wind which we could really feel at the top of the leap of faith! Thanks to all the staff for helping to look after us and our parents for letting us go!

Bikeability (Year 6) – September 2019

Year 6 have had the amazing opportunity to take part in a free cycle proficiency course this week. They started in the playground and by day 2 were out on the streets of Harrogate learning how to safely ride on the roads.

Goodbye Year 6!

Year 6, you have been a pleasure! St Peter’s will miss you but we wish you all the best of luck at your new schools.

Porridge! Year 5/6’s production – July 2019

Year 5 and 6 put on a fantastic show this year – Porridge! We had tremendous acting and singing skills from naughty bears, scheming goats and lots of well-loved fairy tale characters. Well done Year 5/6!

P.E. with Amy from St Aidan’s – June 2019

The year 6’s loved their lessons with Amy from St Aidan’s – she taught us a zumba style dance and we have had an amazing time performing it.

I’m a Year 5/6, get me out of here! – June 2019

The children in Year 5 and 6 have been learning about and having the opportunity to hold lots of different exotic animals. Some looked very friendly and cute while others were a little bit more frightening!

East Barnby – November 2018

The children had the most amazing time at East Barnby. Some of us tried new activities such as skiing on the dry ski slope and and going on a full day canoe adventure including lunch on Lunch Island with the pigeons! We climbed on the indoor climbing wall and went on loads of incredible nature walks. Thank you so much to the staff for coming with us – we wouldn’t have had half as much fun without you!

Crucial Crew Y6 (June 2018)

On Wednesday 27th June, the year 6 children attended Crucial Crew at Harrogate College to learn from many different organisations and services about how to keep themselves safe. They also learnt about how to keep their bodies and minds healthy too. The children had a fantastic time and enjoyed the hands on workshops and talks.

Bradford R.E. Trip (May 2018)

On Thursday 8th May, we visited three different religious places of worship in Bradford. Met by one of the teachers at the Bradford Interfaith Centre, the children learnt all about Hinduism, Sikhism and Islam. It was an amazing trip and the children really enjoyed the experience of learning about these religions at first hand. Here are a selection of photographs from the day:

CNG (January 2018)

On Monday 29th January, Ellis and Chloe from CNG visited Year 5/6 to talk about renewable energy and a water project that they are involved with in Africa.  They have been raising money to provide a school in Kenya with much needed separate shower facilities for the girls and boys who board at the school.    Ellis has been on a visit to Kenya to see the facilities for himself and so was able to talk to our children about how renewable energy is being used to provide hot water for the showers.  Our children were keen to learn about the project as as it links with our previous topic of water and our current science topic of electricity.

Year 5 and 6 Residential – Bewerley Park (November 2017)

At St. Peter’s the Year 5/6 classes are offered the fantastic opportunity of going on a 5 day residential trip every year! We rotate between Bewerley Park and East Barnby so each year group get to go on both. The experience is amazing for the children to develop their independence, build their confidence, work as part of a team and have a brilliant time!

Most children at St Peter’s on their last day in Year 6 are asked to recall their favourite memories from St Peter’s and we can guarantee over 75% of the children choose an experience from their residential trips. The children gain so much from going on these trips and they have an amazing experience! The Year 5/6 residentials have been so successful that we introduced a residential trip for the younger children and they have thoroughly enjoyed it ever since!
